Man City XI vs Forest: Donnarumma keeps place despite errors

Enzo Maresca is set to keep faith in Gianluigi Donnarumma for Manchester City's Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Donnarumma's form has been called into question of late, and he made another goalkeeping error in the 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night, allowing Ridle Baku's shot to sneak in at his near post.

While Man City's back-up keeper Geronimo Rulli staked his claim for more game time with an excellent display in the Carabao Cup penalty shootout win over Brighton, it would appear that Donnarumma will remain in between the posts.

Maresca backs Donnarumma

Discussing the Italian in Friday's press conference, Maresca said: "It's good overall. It's good. It's quite relaxed in terms of he recognised that, you know, he has done some mistake, but at the same time, as I said after the last game, also he has made some, some good saves."

"So it's just a matter of balance, try to avoid mistake and continue to do the right things."

Predicted lineup and team news

After making changes against Leipzig, it would make sense for Maresca to revert back to what he knows best, and field his best XI against a struggling Nottingham Forest side. As such, Abdukodir Khusanov could make way for Ruben Dias at centre-back.

Phil Foden was handed a rare start off the left in Germany but failed to take his opportunity, and he was hauled off in favour of Jeremy Doku just after the hour. In the engine room, Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson partnered each other once more in Maresca's 4-2-3-1 formation, with Rayan Cherki ahead of them, having established himself as the go-to No10.

Iliman Ndiaye has impressed since his move from Everton, meaning he should retain his place on the right flank, with Doku the preferred option off the left, in lieu of Antoine Semenyo, who is out until December with a knee injury. Erling Haaland, of course, will lead the line as he bids to avoid going two Premier League games in a row without scoring, having drawn a blank in last weekend's defeat to Brighton.
