Manchester City Win WSL Title After Arsenal Stumble at Brighton

Manchester City have been crowned Women's Super League champions for the first time since 2016, after Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at Brighton on Wednesday night. The result ended Arsenal's slim title hopes and confirmed City's triumph in their first season under manager Andree Jeglertz.

Arsenal needed victory to keep the title race alive, but they fell behind in the 43rd minute when Fuka Tsunoda beat Victoria Pelova to the ball and drilled a deflected shot past Daphne van Domselaar. Despite dominating possession, the visitors struggled to break down a resilient Brighton defence.

Frida Maanum equalised in the 62nd minute, slotting into the bottom corner after a brilliant spin and pass from Alessia Russo. However, Arsenal could not find a winner despite a triple substitution that brought on Katie McCabe, Beth Mead and Stina Blackstenius, and a late introduction for former City winger Chloe Kelly.

The draw means Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe will likely end her final season with Arsenal without silverware. Chelsea's run of six consecutive league titles also comes to an end, as City celebrate a memorable championship victory.
