Premier League clubs have reached an agreement that any points deduction handed down to Manchester City should be applied across multiple seasons, according to BBC Sport. At least four club officials believe a single-season deduction would not be sufficient.
Clubs push for multi-season sanction
The officials want City to be docked points over several seasons, as well as being handed a transfer ban spanning a number of years. The development comes as the club continues to wait on the outcome of its appeal against a guilty verdict on 114 financial rule breaches.
An independent commission found that City arranged "sham" contracts with commercial partners as part of a scheme to disguise over £830 million in secret funding. The commission also found that the club failed to cooperate with the investigation to the fullest extent, instead making "concerted efforts to stop and frustrate" the process.
Potential punishments on the table
If the appeal fails, a range of punishments could be imposed, including a fine, points deduction or even expulsion from the Premier League altogether. City could also be stripped of the three domestic titles they won between 2009 and 2018.
