Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has said the club are not close to making any more signings in the transfer window, despite holding daily talks with sporting director Hugo Viana and CEO Ferran Soriano.
Both Viana and Soriano have flown out to Asia as part of the club's pre-season tour, but the Blues are still struggling to make another breakthrough in the market.
Record signing and ongoing negotiations
Elliot Anderson was signed from Nottingham Forest during the World Cup for a club record £116m, and there was an expectation that business would pick up after the summer tournament finished. There were signs that City were making progress on multiple fronts as they set off on their pre-season tour, with negotiations for signing Ayyoub Bouaddi and a search for a winger as Tottenham grew in confidence in their pursuit of Savinho.
However, while there were hopes of adding to the squad before the tour ended after City landed in Korea, those ambitions are fading. Maresca said that they are talking every day about the possibilities in the window, but could not say that they are closer to making any signings.
Maresca's update
"No, not at the moment," he said when asked if there were any transfer updates. "The transfer window is open and when it’s open anything can happen. It’s just August and then from September when it closes it will be different.
"Hugo is here, also Ferran is here and we just try to speak day by day to see if we need to do something. For sure, there are things that we need to do. We are in communication every day."
"Fortunately this is a squad that doesn’t need to do many things. At the same time, as we already know, the club lost important players in terms of experience like Bernardo [Silva], John [Stones] and Nathan [Ake]. For sure, there are things that we need to do."
