Man City learn Champions League league phase opponents

Manchester City have discovered their opponents for the league phase of the 2026/27 Champions League, with a challenging set of fixtures that includes home matches against Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting, Napoli and AEK Athens, and away trips to Barcelona, Porto, RB Leipzig and Lens.

First season without Guardiola

This campaign marks the first in a decade without Pep Guardiola at the helm. Guardiola left the Etihad Stadium at the end of last season after guiding City through the most decorated period in their history, including a Champions League triumph in 2023.

His replacement, Enzo Maresca, was one of Guardiola's assistants in Istanbul that season and has taken the reins this year hoping to emulate that success.

Last season's European campaign

City struggled in the Champions League last season. They started well, winning three of their opening four matches in the league phase, including an impressive 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund. However, a rotated City side lost 2-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen, knocking them off course.

They bounced back with a 2-1 win at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid but followed that up with a shock 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in Norway. A 2-0 victory against Galatasaray on the final day secured them a spot in the top eight and an automatic place in the round of 16.

Their journey ended there, however. Against familiar foe Real Madrid, City lost 3-0 in the Spanish capital before losing 2-1 at the Etihad to exit the competition at the first knockout stage.
