Scott McTominay is reportedly trying to convince Napoli to sign his former Manchester United team-mate Kobbie Mainoo, who has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim. McTominay, who moved to the Serie A club in 2023, has enjoyed a successful spell in Italy.
According to The Sun, McTominay has spoken to Napoli head coach Antonio Conte and recommended Mainoo, urging him to make a move for the midfielder. A source said: "Scott has been to see [Antonio] Conte and told him to get Kobbie. He's told him all about his strengths and what an outstanding player he is. He knows all about him from his time at United and thinks he would be a great addition to the squad, whether it's on loan or a permanent deal."
Mainoo's lack of game time has also drawn criticism from former United striker Dimitar Berbatov, who called Amorim's treatment of the player "really cruel". Berbatov told the Daily Mail: "It's a very tough situation, especially for a young player. And it shows you how football can be a really cruel game at times because Kobbie Mainoo was playing, he reached the England national team, he was going up, up, and up. All of a sudden he is not being picked."
Mainoo, 20, has made 80 appearances for United since breaking into the side in 2022, scoring seven goals. He has made eight outings this campaign, although only one has been from the start. His contract at Old Trafford has less than two years left to run.
