Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are doubts for the Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. The pair have encountered issues during training this week, although the problems are not believed to be serious.
Maguire scored the winning goal in United's last fixture against Liverpool, while Mount led the line in that match. Their availability for the Seagulls' visit remains uncertain. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim said: "Squad is fine, we have some doubts, some issues during the week with Maguire and Mount. Nothing serious but doubts. Licha is out."
Lisandro Martinez continues to be absent as he recovers from the anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained last February. Amorim indicated that the Argentina international is nearing a return to full training, though he stopped short of setting a specific date. "I don't know when he will be fit," he added. "He trained really well, not with us but on the next pitch and I was watching the training. He is feeling well and responding well so I don't want to say a specific day or one week but he is near to start training with the team."
Amorim was also asked about Maguire's future, with the 32-year-old defender now in the final year of his contract. The United boss praised the centre-back's influence and contributions, saying: "We are really happy with Harry. Not the time to talk about his contract because that gives the idea that we are thinking so far away. He is really important for us but we just need to focus on the next game." Amorim also noted that Maguire's performances have been aided by the three-man defensive system, adding: "He is not young, but he can learn a lot. He needs to be better with the ball. He is a massive player for us."
United will look to build on their victory over Liverpool when Brighton visit, with the club aiming to secure another win to strengthen their position in the league.
