Manchester United fan and teenage darts sensation Luke Littler has made a bold prediction for the upcoming Premier League season, claiming the club will finish in the top five. United endured a miserable 2024/25 campaign, finishing 15th under manager Ruben Amorim, but Littler is optimistic about a turnaround.
Speaking ahead of United's season opener against Arsenal, Littler said: “I’m very excited. I think we are underdogs. Obviously from last season, I don’t think anything worse can happen – unless we finish 16th. But yeah, I think it is going to be a very interesting season. Most clubs won’t expect it but I’m expecting top five.”
United have invested heavily in the summer transfer window, spending over £200 million to sign Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. Pre-season has shown encouraging signs, and Amorim believes the squad now has greater depth. “That (a selection headache) is a good thing, it is supposed to be like that, not like last season that we have to struggle to put 11 players on the pitch,” he said.
Despite a disappointing debut campaign, Amorim remains confident in his long-term project. “I know it's a massive gap from where we finished, but it's Manchester United. We need to return to Europe,” he told BBC Sport. When asked if United could win the Premier League and Champions League again, he replied: “I have no doubts.”
United will begin their league campaign against Arsenal on Sunday, with no European football to distract them this season after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
