AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to undergo emergency surgery on Monday after suffering a fractured jaw in a heavy collision during Sunday's Serie A match against Parma. The 30-year-old was stretchered off in a neck brace after clashing with Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi, with blood visible on his face.
The injury occurred in the first half, and medical staff attended to Loftus-Cheek for several minutes before he was taken to hospital. Italian broadcaster DAZN reported that the most severe damage was to his teeth, while Sky in Italy confirmed the fractured jaw requiring surgery. The England international is expected to be sidelined for months.
Loftus-Cheek joined Milan from Chelsea in 2023 and has made 94 appearances, scoring 13 goals. Parma boss Carlos Cuesta paid tribute after the match, saying: 'I want to talk about Loftus-Cheek first, I hope he is okay and our thoughts are with him.'
Milan's Serie A title hopes have suffered, with Sunday's 1-0 defeat leaving them second, ten points behind leaders Inter. Manager Max Allegri, who Loftus-Cheek praised earlier this season for his intensity and trophy record, faces an extended period without the midfielder.
Loftus-Cheek had previously expressed hopes of returning to the England squad for this summer's World Cup, but his injury now casts doubt on that ambition. Milan's next match is at home to Cremonese this weekend.
