Liverpool are set to play a pre-season friendly against Yokohama F. Marinos on Thursday despite tsunami warnings issued for parts of Japan following a massive earthquake off Russia's coast.
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck near the Kamchatka peninsula, prompting tsunami alerts across the Pacific, including Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of possible waves up to 3 metres high, urging residents on the east coast to evacuate to higher ground.
The match at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, scheduled for 19:30 local time, is still expected to go ahead. Liverpool released their starting lineup, with new signings Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz featuring, alongside Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.
Linda Pizzuti, wife of Liverpool owner John W. Henry, posted on Instagram from Tokyo Bay, describing the water as calm despite the warnings. The club has not indicated any change to their tour plans.
