Victor Munoz is in line to make his Liverpool debut against Monaco this afternoon. The 23-year-old winger, who joined from Osasuna for £34.5million, has cut short his post-World Cup holiday to be available for the pre-season friendly at Anfield.
Munoz ready for action
Munoz trained for the first time on Wednesday and insists he is ready to make an immediate impact. "Well, I think I’m ready," Munoz said. "Obviously if the coach says so after training and asks me to feature in the starting XI, I’ll be there. I’m keen and I can’t wait to get started. [Against] Monaco, why not?"
Despite Spain reaching the World Cup final, Munoz did not make an appearance after battling an injury early in the tournament. He was entitled to a three-week holiday, but chose to forego the latter part to begin his Liverpool career sooner.
Team news and predicted lineup
Alisson Becker, who started pre-season on Tuesday, should get at least a half under his belt. Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are also expected to feature. However, Jeremy Jacquet is still awaiting his first appearance after a knock, with Ifeanyi Ndukwe on standby to partner Van Dijk.
Jeremie Frimpong is a doubt after being substituted in the 4-2 loss to Leeds, though it was described as a precaution. Trey Nyoni is set to start in central midfield alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, with Florian Wirtz in the No10 role behind Alexander Isak.
Alexis Mac Allister is due back next week, while Hugo Ekitike, Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley are missing through injury.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Ndukwe, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Nyoni, Szoboszlai; Munoz, Wirtz, Ngumoha; Isak
Injured: Gomez, Ekitike, Leoni, Bradley
Doubts: Jacquet, Frimpong, Endo
Unavailable: Mac Allister
Kick-off is at 2.30pm BST on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Anfield.
