Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans as Nottingham Forest weigh up a move for Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Brughmans, who only turned 18 in June, has developed a reputation as one of the emerging shot-stoppers in Europe and is being courted by a host of clubs across the continent, including the Reds.
Global Talent interest
It's understood Liverpool's Global Talent department, headed up by Matt Newberry, has identified the teenager as a potential star.
Brughmans has made four senior appearances for Genk and has previously been capped by Belgium's Under-19s side.
Mamardashvili situation
Interest from Real Madrid, among others, complicates matters and the Reds are not looking to make a move before Tuesday night's 11pm transfer deadline.
That might change depending on Mamardashvili's situation, however, with the Georgia international said to be attracting interest from Forest.
Liverpool currently have Freddie Woodman on the books as third-choice goalkeeper and interest in Brughmans is only likely to intensify if Mamardashvili seeks to leave after a year on Merseyside.
Recent recruits
The Georgian initially agreed to join the Reds from Valencia in the summer of 2024 in a £29m deal that was agreed for the following summer.
Mamardashvili made 20 appearances in total last term under Arne Slot, largely deputising when Alisson Becker was sidelined for a couple of months with a muscle injury.
Brughmans is the latest youngster to have been identified by Liverpool's Global Talent department after deals for defenders Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe were struck in January.
Both centre-backs were scouted at the Under-17s World Cup in Qatar last November and were part of the pre-season tour under Andoni Iraola in the United States.
Liverpool will also see Colombian playmaker Samuel Martinez join from Atletico Nacional next year.
