Chelsea could receive a significant transfer windfall if Liverpool sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The Blues included a 20 per cent sell-on clause when they sold Guehi to Palace in 2021.
Palace paid £18m for Guehi and value him at around £70m, but Liverpool are expected to negotiate a fee closer to £40m, which would net Chelsea approximately £8m. Guehi is likely to leave Palace this summer to avoid departing on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2026.
Liverpool have already spent over £200m this summer, including a British record fee for Florian Wirtz, and have strengthened their defence with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. Guehi's arrival could facilitate the departure of academy graduate Jarell Quansah, who has been linked with Bayer Leverkusen.
Any windfall for Chelsea could fund further squad additions. The Blues have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr ahead of their Club World Cup campaign. They face Benfica in the round of 16, with manager Enzo Maresca stressing the importance of avoiding mistakes in knockout football.
