Liverpool 6-3 LASK: Barcola Hat-Trick Powers Win

Liverpool continued their solid start to the Champions League campaign with an emphatic 6-3 win at LASK in Austria on Wednesday evening. Bradley Barcola opened his Liverpool account with a hat-trick, while Ronald Araujo, Jeremie Frimpong and Lewis Koumas also scored. LASK responded with a Robert Ljubicic strike and two from Florian Flecker.

Maximum Points After Two Games

The result means Andoni Iraola's side have now taken maximum points from their two games in the competition after beating Atletico Madrid on the opening matchday.

The ECHO was in attendance at the Raiffeisen Arena and here we run the rule over the performance of the Liverpool players.

Player Ratings

Alisson Becker 7 – Watched a couple of hopeful shots sail off target before the break and did what was required, which wasn’t much. More busy in the second half as LASK finally began to have a go.

Jeremie Frimpong 7 – Offered support to Rio Ngumoha down the right with very little defending to do first half before popping up with an unexpected headed goal after the break and two assists.

Ronald Araujo 7 – Sent an early sighter wide before getting his bearings to emphatically head in the opener. Subbed.

Jeremy Jacquet 7 – Liverpool’s busiest defender during the opening stages but did well initiating attacks from deep. Subbed.

Kostas Tsimikas 7 – Captain for the first time, his corner created the first and much improved on recent showings, particularly with his attacking play which saw him cross for the fourth. Went missing a bit defensively towards the end, though.

Midfield and Attack

Trey Nyoni 7 – Making his full Champions League debut, didn’t appear out of place and always looked to play the ball forwards. Subbed.

Ryan Gravenberch 7 – Built on his display against Manchester City with another busy outing and so unlucky when shot hit inside of post.

Rio Ngumoha 8 – Tormented the LASK defence down the right flank with his dribbling help prompting the second goal. Another fine display from the teenager. Subbed.

Florian Wirtz 8 – Far too good for this level of opponent, who didn’t know what to do with the German. Forced several saves and clever assist for Barcola.

Bradley Barcola 9 – Looked dangerous every time he had the ball and a good finish for his first before excellent footwork to notch his second and straightforward third. This is why Liverpool paid the big bucks.

Lewis Koumas 8 – Held the ball up well, made a number of good runs, unfortunate to have goal disallowed and great skill and awareness to tee up Barcola’s first, and away end rightly delighted with his goal.

Substitutes

Virgil van Dijk (for Jacquet 62) 6 – Won't be happy Liverpool conceded three times on his watch.

Victor Munoz (for Barcola 73) 6 – Had a few runs.

Alexis Mac Allister (for Nyoni 85) – Win bonus.
