Leny Yoro impresses on France debut as Man United message sent

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro made an impact on his debut for France as he received plenty of praise for his performance for his national team. Yoro is currently with the Les Bleus squad for the extended international break, which is seeing European countries compete in the Nations League.

France faced Belgium in the Nations League on Monday night in Saint Denis and claimed a 4-1 victory, with Desire Doue and Rayan Cherki on the score sheet, while Michael Olise netted a brace for Zinedine Zidane's side.

Impressive debut display

Yoro was named in the starting line-up for France by Zidane alongside Chelsea's Maxence Lacroix at centre-back, and the 20-year-old went on to play the full 90 minutes in the victory on his senior international debut. The United defender put in an impressive performance and has been praised in the French media following the win over Belgium.

French publication L'Equipe have handed out their player ratings for the match between France and Belgium, and gave Yoro a 7/10 score for his performance. This is considerably above the average score for the whole France team, which was 4.5/10, despite putting four goals past Belgium.

Return to club action

The performance for Yoro was also on his debut for France, with Zidane giving the United centre-back his first start for his country. Before that, Yoro had been an unused substitute in the previous three Nations League fixtures for the Les Bleus during the international break.

Yoro will now return to Carrington in the coming days and see his fitness assessed, along with the rest of the United squad, as the club prepares for the return of Premier League football this weekend. United will host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday evening as they look to get all three points, having not won a league match since August 30 when they beat Ipswich Town 5-2 on home soil.

Yoro has made four appearances so far for United this season, including two in the Premier League, but has yet to be handed a start by manager Michael Carrick in the top flight. It remains to be seen whether or not Yoro will start for United against Spurs this weekend, but his performance against Belgium for France could give Carrick something to think about.
