Manchester City began the Enzo Maresca era with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium, coming from behind with two late goals.
Marcus Tavernier had given the Cherries a first-half lead, but Marc Guehi headed City level late on before Josko Gvardiol converted in stoppage time to seal all three points.
Bournemouth take deserved lead
Bournemouth enjoyed the better of the first half, with their counter-attack causing problems. Midway through the half, Alex Scott's pass found Rayan, who exchanged passes with Evanilson. The Brazilian's cross was thumped home by Tavernier, who then went close to a second before the break with a curling effort that drifted just wide.
Haaland's new look and missed chances
Erling Haaland sported a new buzzcut for the match, but it did not bring his usual opening-day form. He missed a wonderful first-half opportunity and fired high and wide after the break, ending his run of scoring on the opening day in each of his previous three Premier League seasons.
City had other chances too, with Haaland failing to make meaningful contact with Nico O'Reilly's cross and Guehi unable to guide a free header home in the second period.
Anderson injury concern
Elliot Anderson, City's £114m midfielder, was withdrawn just after the hour mark clutching his upper leg. While the issue did not look serious, it may be a concern given the lack of midfield options following the exits of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders. City are closing in on a deal for Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi, who could be drafted in if Anderson is injured.
Defenders rescue City
Despite his miss, Guehi proved the hero, escaping his marker to head home from a corner set up by Rayan Cherki. Cherki then played a perfect ball through to Gvardiol, who finished coolly, with celebrations initially cut short by the linesman's flag before VAR awarded the goal.
