Brisbane Lions star Lachie Neale has confessed his marriage is over, stepping down as club captain amid intense media scrutiny. The 32-year-old stunned reporters on Friday with a blunt two-word response when asked if he regretted his actions: 'For what?'
Neale, who did not wear any club apparel during the press conference, denied cheating on his wife Jules but refused to address specific rumours. He admitted he is to blame for the split, saying: 'I have let my family down, and I apologise for my actions.'
The couple's two children are moving to Western Australia with Jules, prompting speculation Neale may seek a trade to Fremantle or West Coast when his contract ends in 2026. Neale said he has not considered his future beyond this year.
Neale, a two-time Brownlow medallist and four-time club best and fairest, has been a key figure in Brisbane's recent success, including two grand final wins. The Lions have accepted his resignation as co-captain, with general manager Danny Daly stating the club's priority is supporting both Lachie and Jules privately.
