Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have both suggested that Liverpool will regret their failure to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window. The deal collapsed on deadline day after Palace could not secure a replacement for the England international.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Carragher described the failed move as a 'bad mistake' and warned that Liverpool's failure to strengthen their defence could cost them a Champions League place. Keane agreed, stating that the club would 'regret that decision'.
Liverpool have struggled defensively this season, with summer signing Giovanni Leoni sidelined by an ACL injury. Carragher urged the club to sign a centre-back in January to salvage their campaign.
Guehi remains a Liverpool target, and Sky Sports reported that Crystal Palace expect the Reds to be the only club likely to make a move for the 25-year-old in January. Other European admirers are reportedly willing to wait until his contract expires in 2026 to sign him on a free transfer.
