The United States World Cup opening ceremony took place on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, ahead of the tournament's opening match between the US and Paraguay. The event featured performances from Future, Tyla, BLACKPINK's Lisa, Anitta, Rema, and Katy Perry.
Future and Tyla kicked off the ceremony with 'Game Time' from the official FIFA World Cup 2026 album, after the World Cup trophy was displayed on the field. They were followed by Lisa, Anitta, and Rema, who performed 'Goals' together.
Katy Perry then performed 'Wonder' from her album '143' alongside 10-year-old Norwegian singer Tius Luka. Perry shared on Instagram that Luka recorded his part in 2021 at age five, and she wrote the verses after hearing his vocal in 2023.
Separate opening ceremonies also took place in Mexico and Canada on June 11, featuring Shakira, Burna Boy, and J Balvin in Mexico, and Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and Michael Bublé in Canada. Shakira is also set to perform at the first World Cup Final Halftime Show on July 19, curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin, with Madonna and BTS.
