Harry Kane has disclosed that Jude Bellingham attempted to unsettle him before his crucial penalty in the Champions League semi-final first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The England team-mate predicted the spot kick would go to the goalkeeper's left, but Kane insisted he was so focused he did not hear the remark at the time.
The Bayern Munich striker later learned of Bellingham's words after the match. 'I spoke to him after and he said: “I know you’re going to go left of the keeper,”' Kane revealed. 'But it was nice for me because I saw the keeper go a little bit early and I put it away. Actually on the pitch, I didn’t know what he said. I knew he was there but I didn’t know what he said. But I went left anyway.'
The 43rd goal of the season for Kane underlines his confidence as he keeps his sights set on reaching Wembley for the Champions League final. The England captain admits it would be a 'dream' to play a final at the national stadium, which would mark his first career trophy.
Bayern have raised their game in Europe after eliminating Arsenal in the previous round. Kane acknowledges Real Madrid will be favourites but insists his side can beat them in the second leg at the Bernabéu. 'We have come through three big games pretty well... but it all comes down to next week and we have to perform on that occasion,' he said.
'I’m feeling good... I’m in good form and I feel confident and I’ll get chances and hopefully I can put some away. Bayern Munich v Real Madrid in the semi final of the Champions League, is as big as it gets. The Bernabeu will be the same next week and so this is the experience I want to take in my stride and this is what I came here for.'
