Harry Kane is set to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich, effectively ending any hopes of a future return to Tottenham Hotspur. The England captain will reportedly hold talks with the German champions this week about an extension upon his return for pre-season.
Contract details and current deal
Kane's current deal, reportedly worth £21.5 million annually, has one year left to run. There is an eagerness among all parties to extend the terms. According to The Times, Kane will be offered a new three-year deal, which would run until a month before he turns 36.
Premier League return speculation
It had been suggested that Kane might explore a return to the Premier League, with former club Spurs in contention, once he had won major trophies with Bayern. Kane remains just 47 goals short of Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League scoring record of 260, and it was assumed he would return to break that record. Tottenham have always been considered Kane's most likely destination should he return to England.
Kane's priorities and recent form
However, having won two Bundesliga titles, Kane is now prioritizing winning the Champions League and believes Bayern are capable of doing so. He scored 61 goals in 51 games across all competitions for Bayern last season, taking his tally to 146 goals in three years in Bavaria. The 33-year-old is also the current favourite to win the Ballon d'Or, which will be presented in London in October.
