Harry Kane has said he will buy gifts for his Bayern Munich and England team-mates after winning the Ballon d'Or, a gesture that could cost him millions. The 33-year-old became the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001, beating Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to the honour following a 73-goal campaign.
Kane plans presents for club and country colleagues
Speaking to BILD after the ceremony, Kane revealed his intention to reward the players who helped him achieve the milestone. "Some of the guys have asked for watches or something similar, so I'll have to come up with something nice for them, both at Bayern and with the England national team. I'll take care of it; I'll definitely get everyone a nice present," he said.
If he buys every player an expensive watch, the total cost could run into millions of pounds. Kane is believed to earn approximately £400,000 per week at Bayern Munich.
Striker reflects on 'crazy week'
Kane described the aftermath of his win as overwhelming, noting the support he received from friends, family and fans. "A truly crazy week. What an unbelievable evening on Monday. Of course, there was a lot of nervousness involved – it was a completely different set of emotions than at a football match," he explained.
"There was a lot of waiting involved, and I kept imagining what it would be like if I actually won. But honestly, it was just something really special," he added. "The support I received from friends, family, and fans – through messages, on social media – was almost overwhelming. So many congratulations."
Kane shrugs off knighthood talk
When asked about the prospect of a knighthood, Kane said it would feel strange to be addressed as 'Sir'. "It sounds good, but it would feel kind of strange if everyone called me Sir – so for now, I'll just stick with Harry," he said.
Kane has returned to Germany to a hero's reception from his Bayern squad, and his team-mates will have to wait to see what presents he has in store. With the upcoming international break approaching, the Three Lions are likely to give their captain a similar welcome.
