Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will finally meet in Cardiff on December 11, ending years of speculation over the heavyweight showdown.
Heavyweight rivals set for long-awaited clash
The British boxing icons have been on a collision course after both came through tune-up bouts. Joshua recovered from being knocked down twice to knock out Kristian Prenga, while Fury defeated Mariusz Wach in Thailand.
Netflix showed a teaser trailer for the clash on WWE Raw that said 'coming soon'. The package showed the pair going back and forth in April, when Joshua refused to get into the ring to face off against Fury.
Fury hints at announcement before confirmation
Anticipation had been building over the bout, with Manchester-born Fury hinting at the announcement earlier on Tuesday. He said on his Instagram story: "Everything is going well, I've got some big news coming. Big fight on the horizon. It is the one you've all been waiting for. About to be announced imminently, so stay tuned."
The date and venue have finally been confirmed after speculation over recent weeks.
Promoter Hearn addresses location debate
Promoter Eddie Hearn was adamant that the initial contract made clear that the fight would happen in London, despite reports that suggested plans were underway to schedule the fight in New York.
Speaking last month, Hearn said: "There was never any doubt this fight was in the UK until there were some approaches from America in terms of the revenue that could be achieved at MSG. Netflix are probably saying they prefer it there and these are elements that we don’t actually have any control over because we’re not really the purse strings behind the fight, Turki Al-Sheikh is.
"When you sign a contract, you expect that to be honoured and followed, and we’ve never done a deal with Turki where he hasn’t done that. I don’t think he’s trying to pull a fast one. I think he’s paying a lot of money for the fight, and he wants to make it as big a success for every stakeholder involved."
