Ange Postecoglou has described his sacking as Nottingham Forest head coach after just 39 days as a “brutal” experience. The Australian was appointed in September to replace Nuno Espirito Santo but lasted only eight games without a single victory.
The final straw was a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, after which Postecoglou was dismissed less than 20 minutes following the final whistle. He revealed that he was sacked before conducting his post-match press duties, leaving him to navigate a corridor full of journalists and security staff while still needing to speak to his assistant coaches.
Postecoglou recounted his difficulty leaving the City Ground due to road closures after Premier League matches. He became stuck at traffic lights for 15 minutes, enduring abuse from both Chelsea and Forest supporters, while also being approached by children asking for selfies. “I paid a pretty heavy price for it,” he said.
Sean Dyche replaced Postecoglou but was himself dismissed in February after a goalless draw with bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers. Vitor Pereira then became Forest's fourth manager of the season.
