Chelsea legend John Terry has reached out to Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes following the Brazilian's decisive penalty miss in Saturday's Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The Gunners, who had won the Premier League a week earlier, fell short in Budapest as they lost 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Terry, who infamously slipped and missed the crucial spot-kick in the 2008 final against Manchester United, offered his condolences. 'Wow, a horrible way to lose,' he said. 'I'm feeling for Gabriel, I've been there. Trust me, it's not a good place for the next few days, you'll feel even worse.'
The former England captain praised Gabriel's overall performance, describing him as 'superb' throughout the season. 'I wish him well, he's been superb this season and I hope he understands how good he's been,' Terry added.
Gabriel, despite the heartbreak, participated in Arsenal's victory parade through north London on Sunday, attended by an estimated 1.5 million fans. On Instagram, he wrote: 'It's painful but I'm proud of this team and everything we achieved together this season. Thank you to our incredible fans for your support.'
Terry's gesture underscores the solidarity among footballers who have experienced similar agony. His miss in 2008 cost Chelsea the trophy, while Arsenal's defeat means Chelsea remain the only London club to have won the Champions League.
