Jockey Oliver Boyden, 24, was taken to hospital after a serious fall at Worcester Racecourse on Thursday afternoon. The conditional jockey was riding Dreamweaver in a novices' limited handicap hurdle when the horse fell in the home straight, leaving Boyden with no chance to stay in the saddle.
The air ambulance was called to the scene, but Boyden was ultimately taken to hospital by road, where he remained overnight for observation. His agent, Ian Popham, confirmed that Boyden was knocked out and concussed, but scans showed no broken bones.
Boyden's mount, Dreamweaver, was making his first appearance in 1,045 days and was trailing the field when the incident occurred. The final race of the day was delayed by about 12 minutes as medics attended to the rider.
The stewards held an enquiry into the incident, particularly regarding the air ambulance's departure while horses were at the start, and a report has been forwarded to the British Horseracing Authority.
Boyden has ridden three winners from 29 rides under rules, with his most recent success coming aboard The Dream Goes On at Hereford four months ago.
