Matthias Jaissle made an immediate impression on Tyneside media by going around the packed media suite and shaking hands with every journalist before his first press conference at St James' Park.
Rather than taking his seat centre stage, he jumped off the podium and went around the room to familiarise himself with each writer. As he made his way back to his seat, he insisted he wouldn't be able to do it every week, but he made an instant impression before taking his seat and insisting it was good to be 'home' after the Magpies' trip to La Manga and Valencia.
First Impressions and Early Days
Jaissle told a packed press conference in the St James' Park media suite: "I have the group all together, no distractions 24/7 actually they were available so that is good in the beginning but I'm also really happy now to be 'home' - if you can say so - in Newcastle."
"The focus is now on the day-to-day basis, we want to develop and improve in a short amount of time, so we want to use every minute of every day."
Jaissle has only been in Newcastle for 36 hours but has already been to the training ground and took in St James' Park for the first time. Speaking about his first couple of days, Jaissle said: "The lads had two days off, so I used the chance to get to know the training ground, settle into the city a bit."
Looking Ahead to the Season
Newcastle have a packed schedule ahead of the opening game against Liverpool at St James' Park but will face Everton in Murrayfield and have home games against Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg on Tyneside.
Jaissle told Chronicle Live: "First of all, really looking forward to the weekend, finally being here at two days ago already to an amazing stadium, I can't wait to see it full of our home crowd. That's already a good set-up, the two friendly matches on the weekend.
"But again, the process is step by step. Tomorrow we have again a friendly match, many matches in the first week now so that means we can see them in the game but also we don't see them too often on the training pitch so we need to find a good balance, we need to be smart with the loan management, also with the technical approaches, how much we can already give them and then we see it step by step."
Challenge Ahead
However, Jaissle is under no illusions about the task in hand as he attempts to move from 12th into the business end of the table. Jaissle said: "It's a challenge, a big challenge. Always when there's a transitional period. But it's not the time to complain, it doesn't make sense to see the negative things, we want to see the chance in that situation, and that's our approach from day one."
"We are here to do our best job. We want to support the players, the current squad, there will be adjustments to see in the coming days, weeks. But for now, it's only focused on the daily work, the work we can influence. And that's all that matters now."
