Jaissle: I Understand Newcastle Fans' Frustration After Everton Exit
Jaissle Understands Newcastle Fans' Frustration at Everton

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has said he understands the frustration of supporters who left early during the team's Carabao Cup defeat at Everton. The loss ended Newcastle's hopes of progressing in the competition in Jaissle's debut season, with Everton now set to face Fleetwood Town in December for a place in the semi-finals.

Fans' Reaction Acknowledged

As supporters headed for the exits at the 52,000-seater stadium, the defeat added to criticism of Jaissle and his team. Just days after celebrations in the dressing room at Selhurst Park, the players left the ground with much to consider.

Speaking to Chronicle Live about the fan reaction, Jaissle said: "Well, I think they were not happy with the result, and with the three occasions we defended when their position was scoring."

He added: "Overall, I think they saw a team fighting, a team who create many, many occasions to score. So, I think they also saw the bigger picture. But, of course, they travel here, we wanted to give them a nice evening with a great result, that we come around further in that competition, and that was not succeeding. So, of course, we can understand also their frustration."

Performance Contrast and Defensive Issues

Asked why the performance differed so much from the weekend's display at Palace, Jaissle said: "Yeah, we mentioned the up and downs, right? But it doesn't need to be that consistently now, in that approach, with the results at least up and down. I think if you see the performance, I don't want to see everything bad today."

One recurring problem for Newcastle is heavy away defeats, following 4-1 losses at Coventry and Leeds, and now this result. Jaissle said: "Yeah, that's first of all something where we need to work on, that we're not conceding so many goals."

He continued: "And you were here now in the whole press conference, I tried to explain that already, that we need to just avoid these individual mistakes, especially when there are occasions where the opposition is not that dominant on the pitch. And today we couldn't solve that better, and this is something we need to improve for the next match on Monday."
