Isak: Patience key to Liverpool winner at Brentford

Alexander Isak has revealed he had to be patient for his chance to win the game for Liverpool after they beat 10-man Brentford 2-1 on Saturday. The Sweden striker scored his fifth goal of the campaign as the Reds came from behind to secure the points at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Comeback win at the Gtech

Keane Lewis-Potter's header gave the hosts the lead in London before Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off towards the end of the first half for headbutting Jeremy Jacquet. Victor Munoz equalised for Andoni Iraola's side after the break before Isak scored a classy winner after pouncing on Bradley Barcola's knock-down.

It had been a quiet afternoon for Isak up until his goal on 70 minutes, and the £125m striker, who is Liverpool's leading marksman this term, says he knew he would have to bide his time against a Bees side who also had Vitaly Janelt sent off in stoppage time.

'Waiting for my moment'

"Super happy with the win," the No.9 said. "It's a tough ground, it's a tough team to play especially away from home. We knew it was going to be a bit of a scrappy game and it's important to come out on top."

"It was about concentration. I didn't have too many chances and was waiting for my moment. I just tried to get control of the ball and finish as quickly as possible. Luckily it went in."

"When they go a man down and they protect their goal a bit more, there's not much space to play. You've got to be ready for when your chance pops up."

Screaming from the bench

Isak, who was substituted for Lewis Koumas, added: "From the bench, we were screaming for the team to keep the ball and just play out the game. It's different from the side. Myself, if I saw a great opportunity I probably would have wanted to score. Maybe in those situations we just have to be a bit more safe."

"I think there's still lots to improve. We're taking steps and we're grabbing points on the way which is important. It's a tough place to come so three points is really good."

Liverpool return to action when they entertain Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
