Alexander Isak believes he is now approaching peak fitness as he praised the spirit within the Liverpool squad under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Isak was on target as the Reds continued their pre-season preparations with a frustrating 3-2 reverse at home to Monaco in a friendly at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Sweden international produced an impressive finish from Ryan Gravenberch's pass to open the scoring before both he and Florian Wirtz claimed the final touch to put Iraola's side 2-0 ahead.
Monaco fightback
But after Aleksandr Golovin netted a penalty just before half-time for the visitors, Mika Biereth equalised early in the second half before a much-changed Liverpool were beaten by Paris Brunner's late header.
Isak was among a host of Liverpool players to be replaced on the hour having featured for 45 minutes against Leeds United in the United States the previous weekend.
Isak's fitness and spirit
And of his extended run-out, the striker said: "It was good. Really nice to be back at home. Back in front of the fans and get some more minutes into the legs - that felt good."
"I think we agreed me and Flo (for the second goal). We both got a touch on the ball, but honestly I don't know who got the first one or the last one. It felt like it was on the ball, but I don't really know."
"I feel good. Every game, hopefully, should take me to a better fitness level. That is what I am working towards. That is what pre-season is for, it is for building."
Iraola's impact
And when asked about the impact of Iraola, Isak said to LFC TV: "Really good. I felt like the spirit is good in the group, and we're all working hard to make things work. Going to make sure we're ready for the start."
