Andoni Iraola has stated he is "in no rush" to determine his next managerial position, despite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. The Spaniard confirmed his departure from Bournemouth following their victory over Arsenal, concluding a three-year tenure at the Vitality Stadium. He is poised to exit on a high note, with the south coast club pushing for European qualification.
Iraola's Rising Stock
Iraola's reputation has grown significantly during his time in English football, and his work at Bournemouth is expected to attract substantial offers. Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, are believed to be keen on securing his services. Heavyweights such as Manchester United and Chelsea have also expressed interest. United, who have suffered heavy defeats to Iraola's Bournemouth in recent seasons, are evaluating their options as Michael Carrick continues to prove his managerial credentials. Chelsea, meanwhile, are newer to the managerial hunt after parting ways with Liam Rosenior. They plan to wait until the season concludes before making a decision, though Iraola may have reservations about their sporting structure and history of frequent managerial changes.
Potential Return to Spain
The outgoing Bournemouth boss could also be tempted by opportunities in his homeland. Athletic Bilbao will see manager Ernesto Valverde leave in the summer and may look to lure Iraola, who hails from the Basque region and made over 400 appearances for the club as a player.
Iraola's announcement has not derailed Bournemouth's momentum. Their win over Fulham on Saturday solidified their sixth-place position and narrowed the gap to fifth-placed Aston Villa. "It was not an easy decision but once it is made you feel relief," Iraola said. "I feel we have used it in a positive way. Since that day, we’ve had great results but also the mood. Everyone is clear, the relationship is so clean and honest. OK, this is going to happen, next season Marco Rose will be our manager. Everyone knows what’s happening. We are in a good place and can use this in a positive way."
Iraola arrived in the Premier League from Rayo Vallecano as a relatively unknown quantity. Despite a slow start, his qualities quickly became evident, and he is on course to deliver Bournemouth's best-ever top-flight finish.
