FIFA President Gianni Infantino is reported to have arranged a meeting with the White House as pressure increases following the collapse of his controversial tournament sale proposals.
The meeting is said to be with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with Infantino seeking backing from the Trump administration to secure his position as FIFA President.
Failed FIFA Forward Enterprise plans
The speculation over Infantino's future comes after the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposals were dropped. The plans would have allowed FIFA to sell shares in its major competitions, including the men's and women's World Cups and the Club World Cup.
FIFA has confirmed the proposals were abandoned after widespread criticism. The New York Post now reports that Infantino has arranged the White House meeting.
A third nation has reportedly withdrawn its support for Infantino, further fueling speculation about his future at the helm of world football's governing body.
