Chris Hughton has told Matthias Jaissle he must "put pressure" on Newcastle United's decision-makers to back him in the transfer market if he is to succeed as head coach.
The former Magpies boss knows what it takes to thrive in the St James' Park hot-seat, having guided the club to the Championship title in the 2009/10 season.
Jaissle took over from Eddie Howe after his move from Al-Ahli was rubber-stamped on Saturday, signing a deal on Tyneside. The 38-year-old has already begun work with the squad.
Squad reset underway
He has inherited a squad in the midst of a reset this summer, with Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Kieran Trippier and Howe all leaving Newcastle in the past couple of months.
United have been active in terms of incomings, but all four signings so far have been players aged 20 and under. While that brings excitement, Hughton says many feel the club are crying out for experience.
Hughton's message to the board
"It's not really about advice but certainly what he will bring is, he's young, he'll walk into the door with a lot of enthusiasm," Hughton told talkSPORT.
"Probably the only thing is he has to put that pressure on the club to try and bring in the players that are needed sooner rather than later because there is nothing that adds more to a club, to a support, when they see new players coming through the door."
"Particularly if you have new, young, quality players coming through the door. So I think it is an important one for the coach in what he sees in that dressing room."
