Sigrid Haugset claimed victory on stage three of the Tour de France Femmes, a result that also propelled her into the race leader's yellow jersey. The Norwegian rider outsprinted her breakaway companions in a thrilling finale.
Stage Details
The 123-kilometre route from Rotterdam to The Hague featured a flat profile, but crosswinds split the peloton in the final 30 kilometres. A select group of 15 riders formed at the front, and Haugset was the quickest in the dash for the line.
Haugset, who rides for the Uno-X Mobility team, finished ahead of Italian sprinter Elisa Balsamo and Dutch rider Marianne Vos. The victory was her first in the Tour de France Femmes.
GC Implications
With the time bonus for winning, Haugset now leads the general classification by 10 seconds over Balsamo, with Vos a further four seconds back. Defending champion Demi Vollering lost time after being caught behind a crash in the crosswind section.
The race continues with a hilly stage four, which could shake up the standings ahead of the mountains later in the week.
