Harry Maguire has been charged by the Football Association for his conduct following his red card in Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. The 33-year-old defender was sent off in the 78th minute for bringing down Evanilson in the penalty area.
Referee Stuart Attwell's decision was upheld by VAR, and Bournemouth scored the resulting penalty. Maguire reacted angrily, confronting Attwell and fourth official Matt Donohue.
An FA statement said: 'Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off... It's alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.'
The automatic one-match ban ruled Maguire out of the Leeds United clash, but the charge could extend his suspension. Interim manager Michael Carrick questioned the decision, arguing United should have had a penalty earlier. Captain Bruno Fernandes also criticised VAR's inconsistency.
