Harry Kane one cap away from England record
Harry Kane one cap away from England record

Harry Kane is one appearance away from matching Peter Shilton's long-standing England men's record of 125 caps.

The England captain has 124 international appearances, leaving him just one short of the mark Shilton has held since 1990.

Matching and surpassing Shilton

Kane will match Shilton's record against Czech Republic, with the 126th cap set to follow shortly after.

England are scheduled to face Croatia at Wembley on November 12. Should Kane feature, that match would give him his 126th England cap and move him beyond Shilton to become the men's record appearance holder.

That timeline depends on Kane remaining fit. Another opportunity would come three days later away against Spain.

England's most-capped players

Shilton accumulated his 125 England appearances across an international career spanning two decades.

Since his final appearance after the 1990 World Cup, several England greats have passed the 100-cap mark, including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney.

Even if Kane reaches 126 appearances, he would not be England's most-capped player across the men's and women's teams.

Several Lionesses have accumulated significantly more caps. Fara Williams leads the combined list with 172 appearances, while Jill Scott, Lucy Bronze, Karen Carney, Alex Scott, Casey Stoney and Rachel Yankey are also ahead of Kane's current target.
