Harry Kane is set to win his 125th cap for England in tonight's match against Czech Republic at Wembley, drawing level with record-holder Peter Shilton.
Kane previously became the most-capped outfield player in England men's team history during the 2026 World Cup, surpassing Wayne Rooney. He has also broken Rooney's goalscoring record with 89 goals for his country.
Kane's rise to the top
Having already secured the Three Lions goal record, Kane can confirm his place as arguably England's greatest ever player next month with his 126th cap, which would see him surpass Shilton outright.
The England captain has been a defining figure for the national side over the past decade. His move to Bayern Munich has seen him reach another level as a forward.
England's most-capped male players
Peter Shilton leads the list with 125 caps. The goalkeeper's international career spanned 19 years and 224 days, from 1970 to 1990. He made 20 appearances at major tournaments, including a World Cup semi-final in his final summer with the national team, and recorded 66 clean sheets.
Wayne Rooney is third with 120 caps. He scored 53 goals for England between 2003 and 2018, a record that stood until Kane surpassed it. Sir David Beckham earned 115 caps, captaining England 59 times and appearing at five major tournaments.
Steven Gerrard won 114 caps, scoring 21 international goals and representing his country at six major tournaments. Bobby Moore, with 108 caps, remains the only England captain to lift the World Cup. Ashley Cole earned 107 caps, establishing himself as one of the finest defenders of his generation.
Sir Bobby Charlton and Frank Lampard both won 106 caps. Charlton's 49 England goals remained a national record for 47 years until Rooney overtook him in 2015. Lampard scored 29 times for England, including nine from the penalty spot.
Billy Wright, with 105 caps, became England's first centurion in 1959. He holds the national record for consecutive appearances, having featured in 70 successive matches between 1951 and 1959, and his 90 games as captain put him level with Bobby Moore.
