Oliver Bearman has admitted that Lewis Hamilton's resurgence at Ferrari is "not ideal" for his own hopes of a promotion, but the 21-year-old Brit insists he is in no rush to leave Haas.
Bearman's Ferrari ambitions
Bearman remains part of the Ferrari setup despite driving for Haas, and he has long been considered the natural successor to Hamilton's race seat. However, Hamilton's return to form and his desire to continue racing beyond this year have all but ended any chance of Bearman being promoted for the 2027 season.
Speaking about Hamilton's performances, Bearman said: "As an F1 fan and a Lewis fan as well, it’s pretty cool to see him performing at the level he is." He highlighted Hamilton's win in Barcelona, where three Brits shared the podium, as a special moment.
No rush to leave Haas
Despite the setback, Bearman is philosophical about his situation. "Of course, in terms of my future, that's not ideal. But I'm still young. I'm only 21. I'm not in a huge rush and, for me, staying at Haas for the foreseeable is not a bad thing," he said.
He added that there is still a lot to learn at Haas, but he remains open to opportunities elsewhere if they can get him to the front of the grid sooner. "My goal remains to be a Ferrari driver one day," he said, but he acknowledged that waiting too long could waste his best years.
Impressive start to 2026
Bearman began the 2026 season in superb form, scoring 17 points in the first two Grand Prix weekends. However, Haas's competitiveness has waned, and he has added just one more point in the nine rounds since.
