Gylfi Sigurdsson's New Life: Icelandic Return, Reduced Wages, and Family

Former Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, now 36, has wound down his football career in his native Iceland, earning a fraction of his Premier League wages. After leaving Everton in 2022, he joined Danish side Lyngby Boldklub in June 2023, but left after six months. He then returned to Iceland, first with Valur before signing with Reykjavik side Vikingur in February 2025.

Sigurdsson remains a key player for the Icelandic national team, having been recalled for Euro 2024 qualifiers after a three-year absence. He played in recent friendlies against Mexico and Haiti. At club level, he scored for Vikingur in a 1-1 draw with Breidablik in the Icelandic top-flight.

According to Salary Sport, Sigurdsson's net worth is approximately £25 million, built from his Premier League days. At Everton, he earned a reported £120,000 per week. Now at Vikingur, he is believed to earn just £2,200 per week, comparable to a player in the fourth or fifth tiers of English football.
