Jim Goodwin has accepted the buck stops with him after Dundee United's derby defeat. The Tangerines lost 2-0 at home to city rivals Dundee, following a 4-0 league loss at Hearts and the same scoreline against Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup.
United are still searching for their first league win, but Goodwin believes the squad has the quality to turn the corner.
Manager takes responsibility
Goodwin said: "I know what this game is all about. Results are what matter most.
"We've probably had more possession of the ball, more attempts on goal, more penalty box entries, more dangerous attacks.
"But it counts for nothing if we don't have the three points to show for it. That's the reality of the situation we find ourselves in.
"I believe in this group of players, I believe in my staff. I believe we're doing lots and lots of good things week to week.
"But ultimately, all of that hard work we're doing Monday to Friday needs to come to fruition at the weekend - and unfortunately in the last three weeks that hasn't been the case.
"I've got to take responsibility on my shoulders as the manager.
"I've signed all of these players, brought them all to Dundee United - and I believe in every single one of them."
Yoro learning from error
Goodwin also made clear that Abdoulaye Yoro will learn from his mistake for the first goal. It wasn't the poor pass but the fact he stopped and didn't try to recover it.
He stated: "The opening goal came from us having a promising counter attack that is turned over in the middle of the pitch.
"The reaction after that was poor, in terms of trying to get the ball.
"He is a young player and coming from a different league and environment.
"We had that conversation at half-time and he knows what is expected.
"I don't mind the mistake but the reaction is important.
"I want the reaction after that to be a positive one and to help the team out.
"Drey Wright could hit a hundred balls from that area and 99 of them would not go where they went. But every mistake by us seems to be punished.
"We reaction was positive.
"The second half was the real sucker punch."
Agyei fitness concern
Dundee United hope Emmanuel Agyei will be fit for the trip to Kilmarnock. Goodwin confirmed: "Agyei was enforced. He picked up a little niggle in training. He is an important player for us."
Goodwin also admitted he tried to put out a red herring over Will Ferry's fitness before the game. He said: "You don't want to give the opposition every bit of information.
"I don't like lying to you guys, but we were trying other keep it in house.
"Will trained well the last couple of days.
"He wanted to play and has been our best player for the last couple of years."
