Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has insisted the club must not sell Marc Guéhi before Monday's transfer deadline, stating that finding a replacement for the England defender would be 'almost impossible'.
Palace confirmed the signing of Spain forward Yeremy Pino from Villarreal on Friday. They have also agreed a fee up to €27m (£23.4m) with Toulouse for France Under-20 defender Jaydee Canvot, who is expected to sign a five-year contract. However, the club have been frustrated in their search for a more experienced defensive option amid uncertainty over Guéhi's future.
Palace have approached Manchester City regarding Manuel Akanji, but the Switzerland defender is also attracting interest from Milan and Tottenham. They have also inquired about a loan deal for Monaco's Mohammed Salisu. Liverpool have yet to meet Palace's £40m valuation for Guéhi, who has one year remaining on his contract.
'From my side, he has to [still be a Crystal Palace player] because it's not possible at the moment to find a Marc Guéhi replacement who can play straight in the Premier League, being a starter, being consistent,' Glasner said. 'When we see our foundation of success in the last few months, it's our defence ... Marc is a crucial part. Getting the right replacement in now is almost impossible.'
Palace are also seeking attacking reinforcements. An approach for Bournemouth's David Brooks was turned down, and they could follow up interest in RB Leipzig's Christoph Baumgartner.
