Nottingham Forest will have Morgan Gibbs-White available for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield, but midfielder Ibrahim Sangare has been ruled out with a calf injury.
Gibbs-White missed Forest's Carabao Cup second-round defeat to Leeds United due to a knee issue, yet head coach Oliver Glasner confirmed the playmaker is fit to face the Reds. Speaking on Friday, Glasner said: "Morgan is available, and Ryan Yates is available, which is good news."
Sangare sidelined after training setback
Forest will be short in midfield, however, with Glasner revealing that Sangare will not be in the matchday squad. The Austrian coach stated: "Ibrahim has picked up a minor calf injury in Wednesday's training session and will miss tomorrow's game." Sangare was an unused substitute earlier this week.
Defender Neco Williams was forced off against Leeds with a head injury but is expected to be fit, while Nicolo Savona remains some way off returning after a setback in his recovery from a knee issue.
Liverpool's absentee list
Liverpool are expected to have double the number of absentees, though most are long-term issues unlikely to change for several months. Federico Chiesa and Joe Gomez are the two players who could return sooner rather than later after picking up injuries in pre-season.
Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola offered an update on Chiesa in his Thursday press conference, saying: "Fede is not available. In the [pre-season] game against Como, he felt something at the back - it’s a small muscle injury. He is not available." Gomez has been recovering from a knee injury sustained at the end of July, with Iraola admitting at the time it would be "impossible" to have him available for the start of the season.
Long-term absentees and expected starters
Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are Liverpool's long-term absentees, with no update from Iraola since July. However, he has recently been asked about fitness concerns surrounding Jeremy Jacquet and Alexander Isak, both of whom missed large portions of last season.
Both are expected to start on Saturday along with Cody Gakpo, despite speculation over his future. With Liverpool now expected to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, the Dutchman could be on the move in the final days of the transfer window amid links to Tottenham and Manchester City.
