Gethin Jones flies helicopter to Manchester for Grand Final

Gethin Jones flew a helicopter from Wales to Manchester to watch the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday. The BBC Morning Live presenter took the controls himself for part of the journey, before enjoying pints with friends after the game.

A video posted on social media showed Jones starting the day with a dip in the sea at Langland Bay, followed by breakfast. He then filmed himself taking off from Swansea Airport and flying to Manchester for the match between Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves.

Sinfield's heroics

Jones witnessed Kevin Sinfield carrying the Super League trophy onto the pitch ahead of kick-off. Sinfield had just completed seven ultramarathons in seven days, crossing the finish line at Old Trafford. This is the seventh year he has taken on the challenge in honour of late friend and team-mate Rob Burrow, who died in 2024 after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2019.

Historic victory

Wakefield won the match 23-10, claiming their third league title and their first in the Super League era. It was also their first league title since 1968.

'A perfect day'

In his post capturing the day, Jones wrote: "When they ask, 'what is your perfect day?'"

"Well… Morning dip in one of my favourite places. A naughty bap, coffee with mates. Travel in style (and have a little fly thanks @dbriggs1965!), arrive in time for the @superleague #GrandFinal, watch the absolute warrior @kevsinfieldextramile arrive after his mammoth challenge, and seeing Wakefield take a well deserved historic victory. Finished with a few G's with the boys."

He added: "Sunday was a proper come down."
