Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been pictured with a fractured skull and 11 stitches following a disturbance at the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, London. The 49-year-old, who has battled alcoholism for two decades, was seen with a bandage above his left eye and blood stains on his clothing after the incident on Tuesday night.
Witnesses described Gascoigne as being in a 'tragic' state, reportedly throwing money, making racist remarks, groping women, and slapping a guest. The guest's friend allegedly kicked Gascoigne down the stairs, leading to his injuries. Police attended the scene.
Gascoigne confirmed on Twitter that he had been treated in hospital and was returning to Newcastle. He thanked his followers for their support. Eyewitness accounts suggest Gascoigne was 'so drunk he's drooling' and was goaded by two men before the altercation.
