Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season, casting a shadow over the club's Premier League title push. The Reds are 12 points clear at the top under Arne Slot, but the impending departure of the homegrown star has dominated headlines.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has blamed the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), for allowing Alexander-Arnold to enter the final six months of his contract. Murphy argued that FSG could have sold the player rather than risk losing him for nothing if it was clear he would not sign a new deal.
Club legend Robbie Fowler has urged FSG to meet Mohamed Salah's contract demands to prevent a similar exit. Salah, along with Virgil van Dijk, is also out of contract this summer, and Fowler stressed the importance of keeping the Egyptian talisman at Anfield.
Despite the free transfer, Liverpool could still receive around £5 million from Real Madrid if the Spanish club wants Alexander-Arnold to feature in this summer's FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament starts before his contract officially expires, meaning Madrid would need to pay a fee to register him early.
