France confirm Upamecano ban; Lacroix and Yoro battle for start

France will be without the suspended Dayot Upamecano for their Nations League clash with Belgium on Monday, opening the door for Chelsea's Maxence Lacroix or Manchester United's Leny Yoro to start.

Upamecano was sent off for two bookable offences in Friday's draw against Italy, triggering an automatic one-match ban that rules him out of the showdown in Paris. The French Football Federation confirmed the Bayern Munich defender was released from international duty on Saturday and returned to his club early.

No replacement expected

With no replacement likely to be called up, France coach Zinedine Zidane will work with the same pool of players from the Italy game. Arsenal's William Saliba is also sidelined through injury.

Jeremy Jacquet appears to have secured a starting role after impressing in his first two senior appearances. Zidane praised the Liverpool youngster's display against Italy, saying: "Very good. Very, very good. Brave. He wasn't afraid to come out a long way. Very good in the duels. He was, once again, very good. I said it four times."

Lacroix favourite, Yoro waiting

If Zidane sticks with Jacquet, Lacroix is the favourite to take Upamecano's place, having been brought on against Italy after the red card. Zidane also has the option of handing Yoro a senior international debut; the 20-year-old received a maiden call-up after Ibrahima Konate withdrew through injury.

Yoro has been an unused substitute in all three games so far and will need to impress Zidane in training to get the nod over Lacroix.
