Raskin and Neil can power Rangers to title, says Adam

Charlie Adam believes Rangers midfield duo Dan Neil and Nico Raskin can power his old club towards a Premiership title push. The pair impressed in the recent Old Firm double delight, with Neil scoring a brace in the 3-0 Premier Sport Cup win and delivering another dominant display in the 1-0 league victory.

Midfield partnership praised

Neil, who stalled in his first few weeks in Glasgow, has now shown his quality with powerful performances against Celtic before the international break. Raskin was also superb in both clashes and looks switched on despite being close to leaving Ibrox over the summer.

Adam said: “A central midfield of Dan Neil and Nico Raskin is at a very good level. Dan has Premier League experience. He’s a very good player and I could see what he was going to give Rangers.”

Strikers stepping up

Adam, who worked with Youssef Chermiti as set-piece coach at Everton, was gutted to see the Portuguese striker ruled out for the season with a cruciate injury. However, he reckons Rangers still have firepower with £9m new arrival Kevin Kelsy hitting the ground running and Ryan Naderi sparking into life.

He said: “But you have to give so much credit to Kelsy and Naderi - they have really stepped up. Bojan Miovski also weighed in with a big goal against St Mirren and is waiting for his chance.”

Momentum after Old Firm wins

Adam stressed the importance of backing up the Old Firm wins after the international break, with Rangers facing Kilmarnock next Saturday. He said: “But there is no point in getting those results if you don’t then kick on after it against Kilmarnock next Saturday. They have to back it up and get momentum.”

Adam also pulled on a Gers shirt again at the Tennents Sixes at the Braehead Arena, saying: “It’s a brilliant event. We are here to hopefully win and it’s great to get a run out with the lads. It’s good to be back in the Rangers top and there are a lot of good players, all being driven by Barry Ferguson as manager.”
