Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned down a club-record offer from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, with the bid valued at approximately £35 million including add-ons. Wolves head coach Bruno Lage has reiterated that the 22-year-old remains integral to his plans and is set to start against Leeds United on Saturday, describing him as 'fit and motivated to do his best game'.
This marks the third bid from Forest this summer for Gibbs-White, who impressed during a loan spell at Sheffield United last season, scoring 11 goals in 35 league appearances. Despite missing a penalty in the Championship play-off semi-final, Forest went on to win promotion. Gibbs-White has also attracted interest from Everton and Crystal Palace.
Forest manager Steve Cooper is a long-time admirer, having worked with Gibbs-White during his tenure with England youth teams and during a loan at Swansea City. Forest have been the most active Premier League side in the transfer window, signing 12 players so far, including a club-record £17 million deal for striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Meanwhile, Lage was non-committal on the future of Conor Coady, the Wolves captain and England defender. Although Lage holds Coady in high regard, the player may seek regular game time ahead of the World Cup, as Lage shifts to a back-four system. Forest are also targeting a central midfielder, with Real Betis's William Carvalho on their radar.
