Forest Green owner sues Peterborough over Savage for £2m

Forest Green Rovers owner Dale Vince is suing Peterborough United and head coach Robbie Savage for £2 million in damages, claiming an illegal approach was made for the coach before he left the National League club earlier this month.

Legal action over buyout clause

Speaking to Sky on Friday, Vince confirmed the feud with Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has not been resolved and that legal proceedings have begun. The £2 million figure matches the buyout clause in Savage's contract, which Vince says the club was "cheated out of."

Vince told the broadcaster: "It's not all sorted. It's now gone legal and we are suing Peterborough and Robbie Savage for £2 million which was the buy out clause we were cheated out of."

He added: "That process started last week. What has come to light in the last two weeks is an abundance of evidence of an approach made by the chairman of Peterborough himself, while he's been denying any such approach was made."

Vince's public update

Sharing a message on his personal X account, Vince provided a further update for Forest Green fans, mentioning the legal process and his morning media appearances. He said: "Early start this morning, for me anyway. Up before 8am, here at Forest Green. Doing a little bit of TV, just done Sky. Doing ITV and BBC next, and I'll show you what it's all about."

He continued: "It's about the changing rooms and it's all about plants. A little bit about Peterborough as well, the news that we've begun a legal process for the tapping up of our manager, ex-manager now, Robbie Savage."

The camera then cut to Vince in the Forest Green dressing room, which featured plants in abundance above player lockers. He added: "Here it is, check it out. Changing room, chocka full of plants."

Current standings and fixtures

At the time of writing, Forest Green sit 15th in the National League after 13 games played, with five wins, five losses and three draws. They face Harrogate Town at Eco Park on Saturday, October 31 at 12.30pm.

Peterborough, meanwhile, occupy 21st in League One with a record of two wins, four draws and six losses. Savage has held tenure with the club since October 2, having replaced Luke Williams following a dire start to the season. Up next for Posh is a 3pm clash with Luton Town at the Weston Homes Stadium on London Road.
