Forest Advance In Europa League After Dramatic Penalty Shoot Out

Nottingham Forest secured a dramatic victory over Midtjylland in the Europa League round of 16, winning 3-0 on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw. The Danish side missed all three of their spot-kicks, with Cho Gue-sung hitting the post, Aral Simsir striking the same post, and Edward Chilufya scooping over. Forest's substitutes Morgan Gibbs-White, Ibrahim Sangaré, and Neco Williams converted their penalties to send the visitors through.

Forest took a 2-0 lead on the night through Nicolás Domínguez's early header and captain Ryan Yates's superb strike from distance. Martin Erlic pulled one back for Midtjylland in the second half to send the tie to extra time. Yates had a goal ruled out for offside in the 118th minute, but Forest held on to force penalties.

Manager Vítor Pereira made significant changes to his starting XI, with only Nikola Milenkovic and Domínguez retaining their places from the weekend draw with Fulham. The travelling fans were treated to an attacking display, with James McAtee pulling the strings and Yates hitting the crossbar early on.

Forest will now face Porto in the quarter-finals, a reunion for Pereira who left the Portuguese side in 2013. "The journey's not over yet – we're still dreaming," said Yates after the match.
